Bound in comtemporary limp vellum, 18th Century color-opainted arms of Este on frond and back covers, title hand-written on spine partly obliterated. |
|
"The covers of the present copy were painted, probably in the first half of the eighteenth century, with the arms of the Este family in blue-green, yellow and pink inside a gilt-stamped border. The dating is suggested by the fact that the arms form an as yet unidentified variation on those of Ercole II d’Este (1508-1555), but do not have the checkered Malaspina device added to the arms of Ercole III (1727-1803).
